  • logo solar decathlonUNAM Team (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) has imagined a prototype that acts on densification of the Valley of Mexico Metropolitan Area (VMMA) megalopolis, which embraces a large number of vacant areas and unfinished self-developments. CASA is a large scale social housing project, which upgrades highly economic habitat to make it sustainable.

    CASA is a model of affordable solutions suited to local conditions.
    Using lightweight prefabricated housing elements, the CASA construction system allows these wasteland areas to be densified as cheaply as possible. It is a veritable toolbox containing, in particular, a system of modular supporting structures, fully insulated, membrane-covered wall and waterproof membrane-covered roof panels.
    The prototype exposed at Solar Decathlon comprises three CASA-related construction models, each of which is fitted with monocrystalline modules and Serge Ferrari solar protection screens, allowing cost and ecological footprint minimization.

    After the Solar Decathlon competition, this prototype will naturally find its place at the CIHAC Exhibition, the premier building industry event in Latin America.

    The 283 m² of Soltis 86 Screen ensure the perfect compromise between efficient solar protection and light flux control. This Serge Ferrari composite screen, which eliminates up to 88% of solar radiation, plays a full part in CASA concept thermal management.
    Its transparency ensures greater outward visibility and optimum visual comfort thanks to the natural light contribution.

    The purpose of the Stam 6002 roof membrane installed in the impluvium is twofold: Its impluvium profile ensures efficient solar protection and drainage of rainwater, which is stored in tanks. Waterproof and mould resistant, this composite material, with its grainy surface, offers exceptional installation flexibility and highly contemporary aesthetics.
    Serge Ferrari materials are lightweight, durable and 100% recyclable through Serge Ferrari’s Texyloop® operational recycling network.
