  • logo solar decathlonRhome – A Home for Rome – is a project aimed at developing an urban eco-area comprising small collective housing units creating an “intelligent city”, which synthesizes today’s challenges while safeguarding history and memories.

    Live from Solar Decathlon:

    The project falls within the urban context of the ancient city’s suburbs, more specifically in the Tor Fiscale neighbourhood…. where dwellings, landscapes, archaeology and illegal construction cohabit. The aim of Rhome is to upgrade fringes of the Italian capital by densifying the urban fabric and working on a solution ensuring long-term mobility for the whole metropolitan area. The ultimate aim is to strengthen its inhabitants’ feeling of belonging by creating a strong relationship with nature, while offering housing that integrates high-performance, environmentally respectful energy solutions.

    Rhome is embodied by 12 R+4 apartments located around a central column, which houses building services: Kitchens, bathrooms, ventilation systems, etc. The particular characteristic of Rhome is its integration of not only a roof, but also a façade, photovoltaic system. The prototype competing at Solar Decathlon 2014 is a 60 m² apartment representing part of the top floor of the project collective housing units.

    Serge Ferrari waterproof, breathable membranes
    Serge Ferrari’s presence on the Rhome project comprises its range of Stamisol waterproof, breathable membranes, which provide protection and act as veritable climatic controllers.
    • Stamisol Pack 500 – 250 m² – contributes to thermal insulation and humidity control at roof level. This membrane, which can be pre-made in the workshop to ensure greater weld reliability, is installed on roof pitches exceeding 5°.
    • Combined with timber openwork cladding, Stamisol Color waterproof, breathable membrane ensures total protection from the wind and watertightness in rain. Its 250m2 of red colour contribute to the facade’s aesthetics and dynamic architecture. This membrane is insensitive to UV radiation.

    Serge Ferrari is also present in the outdoor solar protection element of this project with two blinds made of Soltis 92 composite screen, which ensure the prototype apartment’s comfort in terms of temperature and light.
