  • A new urban district is being developed on an old airfield between Böblingen and Sindelfingen: its cornerstone is its social and cultural centre, and more specifically its day nursery (KITA). The building features a bioclimatic façade made of Soltis FT 381 membrane, a material that has been specified on account of its exceptional durability and dimensional stability.

    In this new neighbourhood comprised of industrial and service companies, educational and housing facilities, the area around the former airfield runway has been redeveloped to create a public park landscape, while the neighbourhood centre is located adjacent to the day nursery and forms a transition zone with the residential quarter.
    The nursery facility is composed of a cube structure, clad with a Soltis FT 381 printed façade, and a playground. Large panoramic windows on each level ensure the building’s openness towards its external environment by effectively linking the nursery’s internal and external spaces.
    This innovative façade forms a delicate shell on the various nursery levels and ensures the building’s quiet, peaceful appearance, which has prompted its designation as a “landmark” within the urban fabric. To embody this Serge Ferrari composite material façade, the architects opted for Soltis FT 381 bioclimatic membrane, which has already proven its extreme durability on multiple projects with its 10-year warranty. The membrane’s dimensional stability, ensured by Serge Ferrari unique patented manufacturing technology, also proved a fundamental argument in favour of this long-term decision.
    Soltis FT 381 is in fact never marred by ugly folds or bulges and, long-term, it will never be necessary to re-tension the membrane against its frame.

    Stunning digital printing
    To further emphasize the building’s identity, the façade was personalised by quality digital printing protected by an UV resistant coating to ensure image durability.
    The printing is scarcely perceptible from the inside, thereby considerably facilitating both internal lighting and visual contrasts. At the same time, Soltis FT 381’s remarkable porosity with its 28% openness coefficient, ensures perfect outward visibility and efficient protection against glare. The building thereby benefits from extremely efficient solar protection and the heat contribution to its rooms is significantly curtailed.

    Moreover, Soltis FT 381 material can be fully recycled at the end of its service life through Serge Ferrari exclusive Texyloop technology.
